America's Climate Choices: Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change

Video

Across the United States, the impacts of climate change are already in evidence and projected future impacts will have significant consequences. The range of possible future climate conditions demands a new paradigm for managing and protecting our people, resources, and infrastructure. The panel report Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change urges consideration of a variety of potential climate futures and associated impacts for which we must prepare, some well outside the realm of current experience. The report calls for a national adaptation strategy to support and coordinate a decentralized network of adaptation efforts.

In the face of a changing global environment, knowledge is power. Advancing the Science of Climate Change, one of four panel reports from the America's Climate Choices project, maps out the realm of our accumulated knowledge regarding climate change and charts a path forward, urging that research on climate change enter a new era focused on the needs of decision makers. In this video, the leaders of that panel, Drs. Pamela Matson and Thomas Dietz, describe the panel's key findings and the lines of evidence that brought them to those conclusions.

America's Climate Choices: Informing an Effective Response to Climate Change

As people, organizations, and governments move to limit the magnitude of climate change and respond to its impacts, demand for information to support climate-related decisions has grown rapidly. Today, however, the nation lacks comprehensive, robust, and credible information systems to inform climate choices and evaluate their effectiveness. This panel report, Informing an Effective Response to Climate Change, calls on the federal government to take the lead in coordinating climate-related information dissemination and management.

America's Climate Choices: Limiting the Magnitude of Future Climate Change

Climate change poses clear threats to human societies and natural ecosystems. The panel on Limiting the Magnitude of Future Climate Change, part of the America's Climate Choices project, calls for the United States to respond to these threats by starting now to change the way we use and produce energy. In this video, several members of the panel discuss its conclusions, including a proposal for an emissions budget to guide U.S. policy as well as measures that might be taken to reach that budget's goals.
