A Strategic Vision for Antarctic Research

This report offers a strategic vision to guide the U.S. Antarctic Program at the National Science Foundation over the next 10 years, and also recommends that NSF continue to support a core program of investigator-driven research and strengthen logistic and infrastructure support for all research areas.


Arctic Matters

To help improve understanding and raise awareness about Arctic change and its many impacts around the globe, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have begun a multifaceted effort called Arctic Matters. The capstone of the effort will be a day-long event for the public and policymakers.

  • Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research

    The PRB serves as the US national committee to SCAR, Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research, a nongovernmental organization charged to initiate, promote, and coordinate international scientific activity in the Antarctic.

  • International Arctic Science Committee

    The PRB also serves as the US national committee to the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), which was established to encourage and facilitate international consultation and cooperation in all aspects of arctic research.

  • Arctic Science Summit Week

    Arctic Science Summit Week is the annual gathering of international organizations involved in Arctic research. The event will take place March 12-18, 2016 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
